Musings: Royal Wedding Adverts

I was amused at work yesterday to see that Canada Post is offering commemorative Royal Wedding stamps. I know he is going to be the Head of State/King of Canada some day, but it still, seems like it's reaching. The only thing my Quebecois callers like less (as a group) than Anglo-Canadians is the British. I found an interesting little survey on Canadian opinions of the monarchy.

After the jump, a hilarious Royal Wedding ad!

Yes We Can! [wear] Denim on Denim

Many of us remember this historic all denim "don't" at the 2001 American Music Awards (not that we actually watch second rate award shows):

I'm not going to fully analyze this poor fashion choice from a decade ago, but some key lessons we can take are: don't wear denim of any kind to an awards show (except the MTV Movie Awards), and just say no to denim fedoras.  Finally, whether or not your outfit is televised,  it's best not to dress in all denim if your date is. While these outfits are a cautionary tale, you need not fear, you can wear two denim pieces together!

After the jump, I am inspired by yet another Arrested Development character to create an all denim ensemble from Piperlime.

Style Icon: Lucille Bluth

Today I was thinking about how I wanted to start my discussion of Lucille Bluth. I was inspired to put together a couple of outfits, incorporating elements of Lucille's lady-like style in a younger and wearable way.  And yes, I do realize that online shopping for a fictional character is a little silly. That being said, you've already seen how seriously I take the fashion of such a silly group of fictional characters.

Arrested Fashion: Oilcloth!

While working on my Arrested Fashion project, I stumbled upon an oilcloth! George Senior walks by  two gentleman are enjoying their cervezas on a table with a lovely green oilcloth.  Nothing says south-of-the border set dressing like a vibrant oilcloth! Where does all this oilcloth enthusiasm come from? Well our friends over at Oilcloth International, of course. Check out their blog!

Below's a pic of my adorable gifted oilcloth (from the aforementioned bloggers). It went perfectly with the Little Miss Sunshine poster and vintage chairs at our Ward Street apartment in Berkeley.

Happy Baseball Season!

Read more about New Era's campaign.

The trash talking will be continuing throughout the season, which I'm excited about as I love both actors and trash talking.  I especially liked the exchange:

John K: It's like being a huge fan of fascism!
Alec: No, It's like being a huge fan of winning.

As those of you who know me know, I'm a Yankees fan. As a progressive Yankees fan in California who throws around the f word (fascism), I totally get what John's saying.  I understand that on principle I shouldn't like the wealthiest team in the sport who exemplifies capitalism and American Exceptionalism in a bad way. But I do. For the same reason that I like clothes. They're fun.  Also, not that I need to defend my allegiance, but my Mom was born in New York.
