Musings: (North) Americana Apparel

Old Navy

It's that time of year again--time to plan what you'll be wearing on Fourth of July! I love holidays that lend themselves to specific outfits, and patriotic holidays are the best kind since they have a built-in color palate.  I just bought this ridiculous Old Navy t-shirt above. It's like patriotic Tourette's. The designers may have been being ironic in designing something this over the top, I'm just concerned that most of the wearers won't be. Either way, I had to have it. Here are a couple more of that same model. I like the Colbert Report-esque eagle. The peace sign one is great for those of us who feel that flag waving can sometimes feel uncomfortably jingoistic.

If you don't want to go the Old  Navy graphic or $5 flag tee route, here are some some cute, hipper, alternatives, for both women and men.

Or pick up a pair of flag shades, I'm pretty temped by these, given my proclivity to patterned fake Wayfarers...

And finally if you have no sense of history, and are okay with getting your Fourth of July wear from the Red Coats, ASOS and Dorothy Perkins have some cute stuff:

A couple of other blogettes did patriotic posts today, check out their ideas at All Things Chic and Mommies with Style.

And for you Canadians who haven't managed yet to break your colonial shackles, were you aware that Old Navy Canada provides the same level of patriotic fervor North of the border?  This is the first July 1st where you can order your Canada Day/Fête du Canada maple leaf-wear directly from oldnavy.ca. Make sure you order now, since it ships Canada Post, and let's be honest here, that's not a major source of national pride (at least you still have hockey...have you met our new friend Stanley?) But in all seriousness, in case you're a South of the border Canada enthusiast such as myself, sorry, you'll have to make a road trip for this red and white swag, as Old Navy Canada does not ship internationally.

  1. do they deliver to Cambodia? I need something to impress at the embassy party we're going to...

  2. Which Embassy? There is a way to ship from the US site to Cambodia using ON's third party international shipping partner, 51 commerce. It will take a while, I wouldn't be sure if it'd get there by your party. It is extremely expensive in terms of shipping and duties, but you can see how much it will be at checkout before putting in any of your card info. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, there is a small US flag and it says 'Shipping to'. Click it and it brings up all the flags, and Cambodia is there, click on your flag, and select 'set shipping destination' If you are going to a Canadian party, sorry, but there is no way for ON to directly ship internationally. But I don't work for them anymore (I stopped a month ago), so make sure to direct all your questions to customer service.

  3. You'd also impress (and could be a little dressier if the occasion calls for it) if you just created an outfit using red, white and blue pieces. Star accessories are always cute too.

  9. You're welcome Leeann. The eagle one is cute in person too, the top part is a really metallic silver, I'll share pics of how I styled them in a bit.
