Musings: Retro Bikinis

As you guys have already seen in my one piece swimsuit post, I'm really excited for all the adorable retro-inspired swimwear this season.  I'm especially excited for high-waisted bikini bottoms. They  give those of us with not quite camera-ready tummies the opportunity to get a little color on our midsection.  Here are a view different categories of retro bikinis we're seeing this season.

Sporty Beach Bombshell:

Taking inspiration from a couple of Bond girls, a monochromatic two piece with fun retro accents shows off an adventure ready physique.

Ursula Andress in Dr. No (1962)
Halle Berry in Die Another Day (2002)

You don't have to wear a dive knife to recreate this look, here's a belted suit that you can wear to the  pool without getting dirty looks (well at least not because of the knife):

Read on for more vintage inspired two-pieces in classic black and white, delicate florals, bright colors and graphics, and bold florals!

This suit above illustrates what I was saying about high waisted briefs in my intro. A plus-size girl who normally wouldn't be able to wear a bikini can wear this kind of style and show of her shape, without being self conscious about her stomach.

And to finish off with some retro inspiration, here's Esther Williams (whose collection you've seen throughout this post) herself rocking a two-piece. Read her Wiki article if you're not already familiar with this swim, film and fashion icon:
