Take Me Out to the Ballgame

ModCloth Skirt / Old Navy Fan T-Shirt / Urban Outfitters Sunglasses

As a family of Yankee fans living in Northern California, once a year we head down to Oakland when our team's in town. I love of course love a  jersey or team t-shirt, but I also love mixing in other pieces to pull together a whole ensemble in team colors. I've been wearing a lot of high waisted printed skirts recently, and I decided to pair this polka dotted one with a logo T for the contrast of sporty and cutesy.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I didn't need to dress up today, I was just working on my Master's project. I did however, need an excuse to wear this dress before it warms up too much. I love prescriptive holiday dressing (see tag "Holidays"), dressing up in the colors or themes of a holiday. I went for a palate that could best be described as construction paper colors kids use when making Valentines. If I was wearing this dress on a normal day, I would have worn black or gray leggings and boots. However, on Valentines day, grape is a neutral!

Author Style: Annameekee Hesik

When I told my friend and new teacher mentor, Annameekee Hesik,  that she should do a post on her blog on all her cute outfits from her book tour, she invited me to do a guest post on the topic instead. So here we are. Once you're done with this post make sure to read our interview too!

Annameekee has just published her first YA novel, The You Know Who Girls: Freshman Year. It is the first book of a planned four book series. She was inspired by how J.K. Rowling chronicled each of  Harry Potter's years at Hogwarts. Luckily for Annameekee's characters, non-magical high school doesn't take 7 years. Her book describes the adventures and coming out of the main character, Abbey. Annameekee's goal was to write a gay YA novel with relatable characters that mirrored the diversity of her upbringing in Tucson and her students in the Central Coast of California.

I loved the book and I know you will too! You can read more about it,  including my review (Julia) on Amazon.  For more information about Annameekee and her work, you can go to her website (including her blog) or  friend her on facebook: (Annameekee Hesik (YA Author). Her Twitter is currently recovering from an evil spammer (obviously a  jealous YA rival author, yes, I am starting that rumor here), so I won't send you there.

Back to the task at hand: fashion. Annameekee recently did her first bookstore readings.
While there's lots to love about this outfit above, one area I would like to focus on, particularly for you young adult readers, is the styling of the blazer. They don't call them wardrobe essentials for nothing. You're never too young to add a black blazer to your wardrobe. Not only will it serve you well at debate tournaments, you can use it to dress up any outfit, making an outfit at least 50% more sophisticated. In this case, the blazer screams "I am a published author. Hear my narrative voice!" Here are a few affordable  options:

1. Forever 21 2, Tinley Road on Piperlime (comes in a million colors!) 3. ASOS Curve (sizes 14-22)

After the jump, lots more of Annameekee's outfits, look-alike items, my musings, her musings, and lots of shoes!

Très Chic

Thrifted Skirt  / ASOS Blazer / Forever 21 Scarf

Today I had a semi-interview meeting for a long-term sub position teaching French. Since I was going to be meeting with Administration and meeting the students for the first time, I wanted to look the part of a French teacher. I've always had chic French teachers, and decided I needed to up my game from history teacher. And since it wasn't really an interview I didn't want to wear a suit. Also it was super cold this morning (it was 30 last night) and today, so I needed to be warm. I settled on wearing this new skirt I found at a thrift store this week. It's by Liz Clairborne and part of a suit, but the jacket is a little big on me and both pieces together look a little too British and/or matronly. However, I am excited to wear the pieces separately. You can see me wearing the blue version of the blazer here, and waxing poetic about how much I love them.

Daytime Sequins

This weekend I visited my best friend Edwin in San Francisco. Since it was Pride weekend, I wanted to add a little sparkle via this paillette-encrusted blouse.

Graduation

Yesterday I graduated with my teaching credential from UC Davis. Since I knew this outfit was going to be under a black robe, I wanted to put together an outfit in black that would work for the ceremony and then transition to the party afterwards. I chose this simple dress accented with a high-low hem and punched up with a bold statement necklace.  I also added a beaded clutch with the same yellow accent color and cage sandals.

What I Wore: Farm Bonfire

Kenneth Cole Boots, F21+ Dress, Old Navy Jacket, Michael Kors Shades

May is a very busy birthday month for my family and friends. Yesterday was mine, and I celebrated at a friend's bonfire on his beautiful farm. Since it was my birthday I decided to go with an attention-grabbing bright red sundress, studded suede boots and and my trusty medium wash denim jacket.

Merry Christmas from Maeby Fünke

This is my first post focused on Maeby's style. I have yet to do one because her tastes are so varying and trend driving, she is harder is harder to deconstruct than the other more consistent characters. That being said, I love her holiday looks. Here they are, along with some pieces inspired by them.

Holiday Look 1: "Afternoon Delight"

I couldn't find a floral sweater similar to Maeby's, but here are a coupled of pieces that would mimic the  bold print and scarf holiday for a family holiday party:

Sweater: Juicy Couture, Scarf: Piperlime, Overalls: Vintage Lee @ Free People

Maeby wears a lot of overalls, I did too in the early 2000s.

Musings: Green Shoes Galore

 ModCloth: Keen on Kelly Wedge

Today I'm going to talk about (i.e. post pictures of) bright green shoes. I recently consigned this pair (below) that I wore on my 21st Birthday in France. They lived a full life that night. It was time for them to move on after having been worn only once or twice since. I'll always have the pictures and the memories.

Miss Sixty

But of course, now, I have a green shoe-sized hole in my heart (closet). I also just got a really cute navy dress with green polka dots, and am thus looking for a cute but comfortable shoe to go with it to wear to school. With that said, here are some of the adorable green shoes out there that caught my eye.

Chartreuse Be Told Flat

My friend Jess got these affordable little chartreuse oxfords while we were checking out a boutique in SF (Sway) a couple weeks ago. They are too cute, and the color more vibrant in real life.

After the jump, as you would expect, lots more green shoes.

What I Wore: East Bay Evening

Gap Shirt, Old Navy Plus Dark Wash Jeggings

Yesterday afternoon, I headed down to the East Bay (Berkeley and Emeryville) to catch up with my friend from my year in France, Katie. You can see us in the Côte d'Azur here. She was kind enough to take a picture of me in front of my old apartment (which happens to be for rent).

Since I was driving from 95 degree Davis to 65 degree Berkeley, I could wear boots and pants! This March I ordered my first pair of Frye boots. One of my personal (shopping) goals working for Gap Inc. was to get a deal on a pair of Fryes from Piperlime. This was a bit of a challenge since the pair I wanted were $218 (beyond my general shoe budget) and are mostly excluded from all our promotions. This March, however, during Give & Get (a thrice annually 30% off Friends and Family charity event sale extravaganza), they were not excluded! As for the rest my outfit, when it got chilly in the evening, I added a light denim jacket and a navy horizontal striped scarf. You know me and stripes this season.

Before driving down to the Bay for the evening,  I spent the afternoon on the couch (with my Mom of course) watching Derek Jeter smash his way to his 3,000th hit. Said hit was of course a home run, and he went an unbelievable 5-for-5 at the plate, and basically single handedly won the game. I was so excited that I decided to break out my Yankee cap pendant (seen quite tiny above, larger below). Even if you don't like the Yankees, or don't care about baseball, you should read the article. It was a magical day.

What I Wore: 4th of July

Target T, Old Navy Shorts, ON Espadrille Sandals, MICHAEL Michael Kors shades
7 Chi Purse

After writing two and reading probably a dozen blogs about patriotic themed dressing, I had raised the stakes for my 4th of July outfit. It was over 100 degrees here, so I had to be practical. I ended up going with an alienated Vietnam Vet turned anti-war "Born in the USA" theme. It was pretty high concept. I wore an American flag peace sign T (Target), dove earrings, red and white plastic bangles, army green cargo shorts and my dad's dog tag.

MARC by Marc Jacobs
I love these little studs, you can wear them with anything and they were only like $30.  I don't think these ones in particular are still available online (I got them from Piperlime), but there are lots of other similar dove pieces in the collection. I love that I could get in on Marc Jacobs' bird motif this season without a big investment on something from his mainline.

I'm no nail artist like everyone else on the internet, but I thought I did a pretty good job free-handing the tips of my nails. I should have probably gone out and gotten a truer blue glitter, instead of this blue green I had, which ended up looking more watermelon red and green than patriotic red and blue. Either way they're summery.

Fabulous Florals

Old Navy
Since I've stopped working at the Gap Inc. call center last month, I have been missing spending essentially all day online shopping. Not literally shopping of course, but spending all day on the site discussing the product with customers. While going through Gap Inc. withdrawals, I've been especially pining over some lovely floral prints at Old Navy. This is not surprising, considering that in my posts I've tagged "Old Navy" 39 times, and "floral print" 19 times.  Today I'm going to share some of my favorite florals for summer.

A Gap Brand Work Outfit

I've stopped working at the Gap call center, but I will start student-teaching this fall.  Here's a work-appropriate outfit I put together, that just happens to be (like most of my outfits) completely from the Gap family of brands.
